Update 1: Difficulty Options!


Hello folks!

From day one of playtesting, the most common thing I've heard is that the game is too hard. My intention has always been to make a hard game, as Maki Beast draws inspiration from many of my favorite rouge-likes, mainly Enter the Gunegon and Nuclear Throne. I experimented with different difficulties, mostly by adjusting the drop rate on health items, but the end result is still a very hard game.

The conversation about game difficulty is a really interesting and sometimes controversial one, and I get that everyone has their own viewpoints. Personally, I really like hard games but I also understand that not everyone does. While I have no intention of making Maki Beast a really easy game by any means, I understand that everyone is approaching it with different skill-levels and for some people, the game is just too hard for them to enjoy. 

So I changed the original difficulty to "Hard Mode" and created a new "Normal Mode" which lengthens enemies' attack timers, changes enemy spawn rates, and adds more hp drops. The boss attacks are also slightly adjusted. My hope is that more people can enjoy the game and that Normal Mode can serve as a stepping stone into Hard Mode for those up for the challenge.
